I wanted this sanctuary of all the Gods to represent the terrestrial globe and the celestial sphere, a globe in which the seeds of eternal fire are contained, all contained in the hollow sphere” (M. Yourcenar, Hadrian’s Memoirs)
Built by Agrippa in 27 B.C. and completely rebuilt by the Emperor Hadrian in the early 2nd century A.D.
